A GREAT END TO A FANTASTIC YEAR - posted 1 January 2009

Our independent web-provider has confirmed this morning that spokesman-online had a staggering 124,808 visits in 2008 - making it the cycle speedway success story of the year.  And it's all down to you, our loyal readers.

When we launched the website in November 2007, we set ourselves what we thought was a challenging target of 10,000 visits per annum.  Little in our wildest dreams did we expect to be celebrating 10,000 visits per month in our first calendar year.

Even when we upgraded to wireless Broadband and had to endure the best part of a month accessing the site from the public library, you stuck with us.  And what's even more amazing, is that when we closed down for a month in November to take an extended holiday, you still logged on - at an astonishing rate of 5,000 per month.

Statistically Good Friday was our busiest day ever with 624 visits.  Our quietest day, not surprisingly, was Christmas Day.  Even then 195 of you took time out between the mincepies and sherry to steal a quick look at your favourite website.

Monday remains by far the busiest day of the week when our results and reports features are very much in demand. Our busiest time is between 7pm and 8pm in the evening.  In total you have browsed close on half a million pages!  For the techies amongst you, we have had eight millions hits this year!

The vast majority of our traffic comes from the UK, followed by United States, Germany, Australia, Denmark,  Poland, Czech Republic and Russian Federation in that order.  A really interesting statistic that.  More interest from Germany than Australia?  More hits from Denmark than Poland?  Mmm - food for thought there!

Welcome is our most popular page, closely followed by Latest News, Club Call, Viewpoint and Cycle Shorts.   Our least popular page is Sponsorship.

So what a great end to a fantastic year for everyone connected with spokesman-online.

Cycle speedway's favourite website is a real collabrative effort. Without our wonderful contributors, the copy they submit or the pictures they take, there would simply be no website - not forgetting our superb sponsor, Wosskow Brown Solicitors, whose faith and financial help keeps the site affordable.

And then of course there's YOU!  You have made spokesman-online the success story of the year. Your  response, your support, your encouragement makes the effort all worthwhile.

Together we can be proud of our wonderful achievement.

So here's to 2009.  To you and yours, a happy and healthy New Year.  And remember - keep clicking on spokesman-online.

WOSSKOW BROWN SPONSOR SPOKESMAN-ONLINE - posted 7 December 2007

spokesman-online is pleased to announce an exciting new development.

Sheffield solicitors Wosskow Brown have offered to sponsor the site for the next twelve months.

“This is great news” said spokesman-online’s editorial team.   “The partnership with Wosskow Brown will enable us to significantly increase our storage capacity and double the number of pages.   We are really indebted to Ian Brown for his generous offer.”

Wosskow Brown are equally enthusiastic about the new arrangement.

”This new site is proving such a big hit, it deserves all our support” said Ian Brown.   “We know that it will be professionally run and have the highest integrity, which fits in perfectly with Wosskow Brown’s company image.   We are delighted to be associated with spokesman-online”.

Wosskow Brown are well-known in cycle speedway circles.   Not only do they sponsor the Sheffield club and the highly successful British Youth and Junior League but they have also introduced an innovative Club Support scheme (see Sponsorship page for details) which rewards clubs based on introductions to the company.

spokesman-online’s advertising banner at the foot of each page will be modified shortly to incorporate the Wosskow Brown name.

TAKEOVER DEAL CONFIRMED - posted 5 December 2007

spokesman-online has taken over one of cycle speedway's most successful websites following an approach by its present owner.
cyclespeedway.co.uk was founded six years ago by Suffolk enthusiast Paul Jay and quickly established itself as the first click for every discerning cycle speedway surfer.

pauljay01Launched in the days before British Cycling's webpages, the site carries a wealth of information ranging from track locations, contacts, statisical data and links with other websites.   However web-master Paul Jay has not been able to devote much time to the project of late.

"When I saw the progress spokesman-online had made in such a short space of time, I had no hesitation in offering my site and domain name" said Jay.

spokesman-online is delighted with the news.

"It's a wonderful gesture on Paul's part.     It's early days and we are in on-going talks with Paul on how best to move things forward.   However it will   be a huge boost to have the cherised domain cyclespeedway.co.uk.

"When we set up the new site last month, the name   spokesman-online, seemed the obvious choice but it may be more appropriate to change the name at sometime in the future.   The acquisition of cyclespeedway.co.uk certainly allows us to do that.

cyclespeedway.co.uk has had 41,000 visitors since it started in 2001, making it one of the sport's most popular websites.   Already an automatic divert has been set up between the two sites directing visitors to spokesman-online.
Watch this space for futher news.
